Ten Thousand Bars

So why is it always me that has to listen
You’re always on transmit, you don’t receive
If your lips stop moving for a second
oh maybe I’d kiss them
And if they don’t stop moving soon
I’m gonna leave

Because I’ve done a million miles in cars
To play ten thousand bars
And there was no one there
That didn’t know much more than me
Sometimes you get sick on your own
And sometimes you get bad news from home
And then you give yourself
To those that want to save

And you think that you’ve a right to an opinion
When all you do is say the same old thing
Like maybe you should be more like Stealers Wheel
Or maybe Jose Feliciano
You can do that whole blind and ugly thing

And you think I’m gonna sit there in your office
And it’s my opinion, you are making a mistake
If you think that you could understand in an instance
It takes some people, laughter to create

So roll up, roll up
Come up and take a look
He sings like Stephen Hawking
And he’ll play like Captain Hook
He used to smoke too
And he’ll swear too much
And usually he’ll complain
He must be insane

Because I’ve done a million miles in cars
To play ten thousand bars
And there was no one there
That didn’t know much more than me
Sometimes you get sick on your own
And sometimes you get bad news from home
But there’s no one I know that’s luckier than me
